The First Year of TWWN Podcast

Dec 11, 2021 | More About Nate, The World With Nate Podcast

I wanted to outline some of the things that, I believe, make The World With Nate unique.

Naturally, the podcast had a ton of “firsts” in the year of its inception. Season Two seems to be following a similar trend, with the largest advancement being the addition of a video component to The World With Nate podcast. It was important for me, offering a viewing experience, because I learn visually and I felt it could afford others the chance to do the same.

Audio content will still be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor, Google, or wherever you consume your favorite podcasts. You should never be paying to access The World With Nate podcast, because all the major hosting platforms have free listening options. In addition, now you will be able to view the podcast episodes on YouTube and Spotify. This is all free for your viewing pleasure, thanks to my generous supporters: Buck Kerndt, Owner, Hawki Storage & Consulting; and Katie Hein, Owner, Mattress By Appointment, Cedar Falls

Without further ado, here is my list of BIG NEWS from TWWN 2021 and beyond….

Late November 2020 – The World With Nate idea was brought to Pixel Labs on sketch papers, Zach Everman was intrigued by the idea and worked with my budget to develop the podcast.

December 2020 – Started working with Tyler Black (Pixel Labs, graphic designer) to develop my idea into the initial logo and my brand.

18 December 2020 – Logo uploaded to FACEBOOK and page created! Things just got FB official!!! Dropped Episode Zero to elaborate on the WHY behind the podcast.

01 January 2021 – Episode 001 launched. At the time, I had a lineup of guests to get me through the first handful of episodes. Most of these guests were friends and I felt comfortable with having guided conversations.

25 January 2021 – Learning on the fly….the initial logo didn’t have the word “podcast” and it caused people to assume other things. A FB page, a blog, a channel, or series were all guesses as to what “The World With Nate” was, so we developed a second logo with verbiage to better reflect the brand. It seemed to clear up confusion and the original artwork have become collector’s pieces never to be produced again. OG stickers for anyone who has one!

01 February 2021 – ordered hundreds of logo stickers and sent them to anyone who would take one! I covered the shipping and handling so there wasn’t a reason to say no.

08 February 2021 – worked with Heims Award + Custom Gifts in Machester, Iowa to develop a shirt design with the logo and podcast slogan “Enjoy the riidddeeee!!!!”

March 2021 – Things are at hyper speed with the podcast. Listeners are starting to reach out and share their experience in regards to listening to the content. Seven podcast episodes have been produced and published. A huge majority of podcasts fail before their seventh episode, I felt like I was going strong and had a lot of hope.

01 April 2021 – I was excited to advocate for Autism Awareness month. Prior to the podcast, my knowledge in this subject was limited. I had learned a ton about the autism diagnosis from my episode 003 guest, Allyson Schwab. My close friend and episode 004 guest, Greg Lentz also has a daughter on the spectrum and was able to share his experiences and help me learn &  grow. This enabled me to do the same for others and help to raise awareness about something I’ve grown passionate about.

15 April 2021 – 248 comments on a picture of bread. I posed the question, as to whether or not you thought it was a necessity to eat the end of the loaf. Moral of the story, it was a hotter topic than the most recent presidential election!

11 May 2021 – applied and was accepted to the Warrior Rising program for Veterans entrepreneurs. This program is designed to give Veterans the tools they need to be successful entrepreneurs through partnerships, mentoring and economic assistance.

12 May 2021 – developed a fever of 104.2 through the night and thought I had contracted COVID.

15 May 2021 – episode 010 “My Walk” w/ Summer Meyer published. I had recorded earlier in the month, ahead of schedule and published the episode.

18 May 2021 – admitted to MercyOne after battling fever/headache/shortness of breath since 12 May 21. Underwent EVERY test available to include FIVE negative covid test and multiple negative antibody panels.

25 May 2021 – released from MercyOne for hours and rushed to University of Iowa with another high fever.

30 May 2021 – released from University of Iowa after 24 hours without a fever and NO ANSWERS.

June 2021 – I sulked and felt terrible for myself. I almost quit podcasting and wondered if what I was doing was providing any worth. Check out the episode release dates, you will notice all of June is missing.

01 July 2021 – After a ton of soul searching and encouragement from the people who loved me i recorded episode 011 “Quite the Journey” w/ Timothy O. Oyungu and the fire started to burn again.

01 August 2021 – “Tate’s Army” w/ Ryan Manahl is published. We split the content into two parts because of the time commitment for our entire conversation. Part 1 dropped with Part 2 dropping the 15th.

15 August 2021 – ”Tate’s Army” w/ Ryan Manahl goes on to be the most played episode of 2021 with over 5,000 total plays across the two-part series.

03 September 2021 – Professional podcast pictures are taken by Pixel Labs to develop branding and advertising material.

13 September 2021 – Marketing mail campaign commences with mailers created by Tyler Black to obtain new business sponsorship opportunities for the podcast.

17 September 2021 – secured Hick’s Place in Cedar Falls, Iowa to host the first, annual social event to benefit The World With Nate podcast. The event is scheduled to take place late January of 2022 by invitation only, with hopes of future events being open to the public.

01 October 2021 – Summer N. Meyer is the first guest to get invited back on the podcast. We had so much more to speak on after her first episode, it only made sense to honor breast cancer with her mothers story. This episode provided me with necessary strength and courage to tackle life, as my own grandmother passed away battling cancer prior to recording this episode.

15 October 2021 – I didn’t know Amanda Goodman prior to our podcast episode. To be completely honest I was nervous and intimidated stepping foot in the same studio as her. When I started the podcast, I went to Pixel Labs because it’s where Amanda records her podcast, Faith & Four Letter Words. If it was good enough for Amanda, it was good enough for me. Since then, we have developed a friendship and I value her insight and realness more than I ever could have fathomed. I’m beyond blessed to share a podcast booth with someone whom I admire and respect.

November 2021 – military service helped me develop into the person I am today, but it wasn’t without obstacles or challenges. What better time to highlight some of those things and bring attention to the heroes who choose to serve? For the rest of eternity, November at The World With Nate will be used to spotlight issues facing military service members and their families.

01 December 2021 – A rock band that plays covers music of; Ozzy Ozbourne, Van Halen, The Beatles, The Black Crowes and many more….joined the podcast! They played us out at the end of the episode. It took JRE till this year to have Jewel do the same, we are coming for the title of number one podcast Joe Rogan! Spread the word!

15 December 2021 – I felt very uncomfortable, intentionally, with the subject matter of the last episode of season one. I don’t have a lot of experience with Down Syndrome and knew Lauren would help me through the conversation allowing me to learn and grow along the way. It felt like the perfect way to wrap up season one of The World With Nate

My grandma was the most influential person in my life while I was growing up. She was diagnosed with cancer years ago, and fought courageously to the very last breath this past year. It was the hardest loss I’ve suffered. She was the strongest, most amazing woman to ever grace this earth; therefore, a short write-up on her accomplishments will never touch the impact she had on so many. It had been my focus to interview her on the podcast. Partly, to satisfy my selfish desire to never lose her voice and to cherish our conversation forever. But, also because she really was a badass. It would be a piece that I’d never lose, when her time ultimately came.

I’m so thankful for all the support and love I’ve received in season one, and I can’t wait for you all to hear the amazing stories we have planned for season two. So, sit back…and relax…I want you to…

Enjoy the riidddeeee!!!!!
